Internet Plans
Tutorial on how to make internet plans.
What is an Internet Plans?
An internet plans is the internet speeds you are selling also known Bandwidths in this platform at a set price of your choice.
When creating an internet plan, one should consider the following:
- Bandwidths - This is the internet speeds you will be providing i.e 5mbs. Setup Bandwidths
- Duration - How long can one access the package after activation. i.e 30 days, 1hr
- Hotspot - Internet that is suitable for public areas where one can use it temporarily without need for setting up routers. Setup Hotspot
- PPPoE - This refers to internet suitable for PPPoE users that have their routers connected by ethernet. Setup PPPoE
Making an Internet Plan
The first step to making a package is to create a Bandwidth.
Fixed User Internent Plans (PPPoE Plans)
PPPoE user refers to a user whose connected to you over ethernet.
They use the PPPOE plans.
Hotspot User Package (Hotspot Plans)
A hotspot user is a user who uses you as an access point. They can access your internet by logging in and use the internet without need of a physical connection.
They use the Hotspot plans.
Note
Once the package bought by your customer is activated, the countdown for time used will start. Therefore, if a user was to disconnect for a period then reconnect, their time will be consumed.
Bandwidth Package Management
Creating the right bandwidth packages is crucial for your business. Well-designed packages help you maximize network resources while providing excellent service to your customers.
Understanding Bandwidth Components
Before creating packages, let's understand the key components:
Download Rate
- Determines how fast users can receive data from the internet
- Examples: streaming videos, downloading files, browsing websites
- Typically higher than upload rate for residential packages
Upload Rate
- Determines how fast users can send data to the internet
- Examples: video calls, uploading files, sending emails
- Critical for business customers who need to share large files
Burst Settings
- Allows temporary speed increases above the standard rate
- Helps with loading large files or web pages quickly
Consist of the following elements:
- Burst Limit: Maximum temporary speed above base rate
- Burst Threshold: Speed level that triggers burst mode
- Burst Time: How long burst speeds can remain active (in seconds)
These settings allow short-term speed increases beyond standard rates when needed.
Creating a Bandwidth Package
To create a new bandwidth package:
Navigate to Internet plans
in your dashboard
Click the Create Bandwidth
button
Fill in the following details:
Basic Settings
Field | Description | Example |
---|---|---|
Name | Descriptive package name | "Home Basic", "Business Pro" |
Rate Download | Standard download speed | 100 Mbps |
Rate Upload | Standard upload speed | 50 Mbps |
Burst Configuration (Optional)
Field | Description | Example |
---|---|---|
Burst Limit Download | Maximum temporary download speed | 200 Mbps |
Burst Limit Upload | Maximum temporary upload speed | 100 Mbps |
Burst Threshold Download | Speed at which download burst begins accumulating | 80 Mbps |
Burst Threshold Upload | Speed at which upload burst begins accumulating | 40 Mbps |
Burst Time Download | How long download burst can be active | 60 seconds |
Burst Time Upload | How long upload burst can be active | 30 seconds |
Important Considerations
Network Capacity
Ensure your total allocated bandwidth across all packages doesn't exceed your network capacity. Keep at least 20% bandwidth reserved for overhead.
Duration
Once a package has been paid for and activated, the countdown for its validity starts. Once it runs out, the package will no longer be accessible to the customer.
Hotspot Internet Plans Management
Hotspot packages allow you to offer flexible, time-based internet access perfect for cafes, hotels, shopping centers, and other public spaces. This guide will help you create and manage effective hotspot packages.
Prerequisites
Before creating a hotspot package, you must first set up a Bandwidth Profile that defines the speed settings for your package.
Creating Hotspot Packages
Create Bandwidth to use when creating hotspot plans
Create Hotspot Package
Access the hotspot package creation form:
- Go to the Internet plans section
- Click the Hotspot Plan button
Package Settings
Field | Description | Example |
---|---|---|
Station | The place where your router is located | "Ruiru" |
Select Router | Routers to have the hotspot package | "Demo" |
Name | Customer-facing package name | "1 Hour Premium", "24H Basic" |
Plan type | Type of payment method | Paid, Ad, Free |
Price | Cost of the package | 50 KSH, 100 KSH |
Validity | Duration of access | 1 hour, 1 day, 1 week |
Bandwidth | Associated speed profile | "5Mbps Basic", "10Mbps Premium" |
Advanced Quotas
Hotspot packages can include usage limits to prevent abuse and manage network resources:
Available Quota Types:
Parameter | Description | Example |
---|---|---|
Validity | Total active duration of hotspot plan | 5 Hours, 7 Days |
Up-Time Limit | Maximum time allowed online per session | 2 Hours, 1 Day |
Data Cap | Maximum allowed data transfer | 10GB, 500MB |
Ad plan
Select the ad to be attached to the package. The ad should be uploaded first.
Free plan
You need to put in place an uptime limit and uptime reset t ensure that no one abuses your internet.
- uptime limit - This is the amount of time that the package will be valid to a customer.
- uptime reset limit - This is the amount of time the package will be accessible after expiration.
Duration
Once a package has been paid for and activated, the countdown for its validity starts. Once it runs out, the package will no longer be accessible to he customer.
Customer Experience
Make your package names and durations easy to understand. Users should know exactly what they're getting.
PPPoE Internet Plans
PPPoE stands for Point to Point Protocal over Ethernet. It is a way an Internet service Provider can connect the customers to internet through a router and ethernet cable.
A customer must have a router that you will connect to, from your router through an ethernet cable for them to receive internet.
This type of internet plan is suitable for homes and offices where one needs fixed internet access.
